To quote The Fonz: “802.11aaaaa”
I believe I’ve gotten the 802.11a problems sorted out. There were several issues combined I think and I somewhat inadvertently got past them all:
1. The XBOX360 was too close to the TV & Tivo. That was hurting it’s wireless reception.
2. The -a router wasn’t responding to a web browser when it should have been, so I reset the router to factory defaults and brought it back up on a fresh config.
3. Realized that some of the shows I was testing were encoded as XVID with AC3. There’s apparently a known bug with the XBOX 360 for videos encoded with that combination. (x-box-scene forum post on the issue)
After those three moves, everything looks like it’s now working as expected. The XVID/AC3s are still stuttering, but every other video looks fantastic again.
