Resume Tips: Don’t Leave Gaps in Your Resume (Unless You Must)
Dates on resumes are an interesting thing. They usually show two key indicators:
- Job hopping: dates that show you have job ADD; you don’t stay longer than a year or two at one company; and
- No job: dates that show you are unemployed or were.
Unemployment isn’t a crime, especially not in this economy. But you will need a good explanation for what you’ve been doing since then. If you’re freelancing or contracting during the gap, I’d put that down. Even if it isn’t a stunning job, it shows you’re still maintaining your ambition and skills while you seek a new gig.
