Interviews: Research, research, research
Lifehacker just reposted an article from Wisebread talking about researching the job you’re interviewing for. I couldn’t agree more.
So far this year at Redfin, I’ve interviewed probably dozens of people for various different positions throughout the company. I can definitely say I remember the ones who knew what we were about, had a plan for success in the particular role and sometimes even knew our history as interviewers. (Although the latter still creeps me out a bit.
My favorite, jarring statement was from a candidate who said “I wondered what Gilligan looked like” in reference to my Halloween costume on Facebook. That was a bit of a reminder wake-up call.)
If you want to be remembered in an interview loop, especially if you’re up against other candidates or think you might be, put your time into the research and thinking. After all, you’re trying to show you’ve got what it takes to get the job. Why not just prove it?
